About me
Pembroke Pines, Florida, United States
Judy Echavez is an award-winning broadcast journalist with more than a decade of experience under her belt. She is best known for not only filing domestic reports but international ones as well. In December 2006, she received an Emmy for her involvement in a public affairs program entitled Miami 9-1-1 Fire and Rescue, which she currently hosts. The hour-long show airs five days a week on the City of Miami’s station.
Investigating the mysterious disappearance of boys in the Bahamas, searching for a serial rapist’s relatives in Honduras and asking tough questions regarding the treatment of enemy combatants in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba are just a few of the subjects she has reported on.
Ms. Echavez spent three years at the ABC affiliate, WPLG-10, where she chased hurricanes along the West Coast, filed reports for the Weather Channel and the network, as well reported on immigration issues from a US Coast Guard cutter off the coast of Puerto Rico.
She spent several years as a general assignment reporter and anchor at WWOR-UPN 9 in Secaucus, NJ covering the tri-state area. While in NY, the station sent her back to Florida to report on two huge stories: the 2000 Presidential Election and Elian Gonzalez’s return to Cuba.
Ms. Echavez also reported on the tragic events unfolding during September 11th five years ago.
In addition to the serious stories, she has been on the red carpet in the Big Apple for star-studded events such as the MTV and VH1 awards. There Ms. Echavez interviewed celebrities like Donald Trump, Latin singer Marc Anthony and hip hop mogul P. Diddy. On occasion, she has sat down and conducted one-on-one interviews with radio personality Howard Stern, ABC journalist Barbara Walters and actor Tommy Lee Jones.
"No matter what you want, it's achievable. Don't ever stop." Words Ms. Echavez lives by both in her personal and professional life.
