  • About me
    Saint Louis, Missouri, United States
Trumaine Epps also know around the world as the one and only DJ TAB was born September 19, 1986 in St. Louis, Missouri. Before Tab was born, his mother Senta Johnson knew that he would be something special. When I was born, he weighted 7 pounds 11 ounces and his mother thought it was funny because his weight was the same amount as the store seven eleven. Trumaine Epps was named after is father Clifford Barnett who passed when I was 10 years old. My mother was never married to my father but they maintained a steady relationship for sake of their children.
Two years after I was born on my mother had another child but this time a little girl named Ashley on March 11, 1988. Everyone who met Ashley thought she was the nicest sweetest child in the world, but being her older brother I knew the truth about my little sister. As we grew up my mother raised us as a single parent with a little help from our father, but as I got to that age when I could walk and talk my mother got a good paying job at Bi-State Development Agency working for the St. Louis transit system. When my mother started working for Bi-State when spent more a more time with my grandparents because my mother worked weekdays and nights, “a small price to pay, but I understood.’’
As my mother worked and worked to keep the bills paid and our family happy, we moved from St. Louis city to Jennings into a bigger house. When I lived in Jennings, I started attending Woodland Elementary School in third grade. As the years went by and I got even older I got more and more into music, I was listening to rap, R&B, gospel, and anything else with a beat I can dance and groove too. In the fifth grade, me and a couple of my friends entered into the school talent show were we sung a song by Boyz II Men entitled “Mama.” As we performed and my solo came up I looked out into the crowd and seen these three girls in the first row to my left crying, I thought they were crying because of me, but they were really crying because their mother just died a couple days before the talent show. After me and my friends performed I walked over to the three girls and gave them all a huge hug. After I seen how a certain song could make people act or do certain things, that’s when I knew I wanted to do something related to music, but I stilled loved playing sports also so I continued to play sports and just listen to music. Towards my last years in grade school, my mother meet and man named Eugene “Butch” Johnson who she fell in love with and married. When my mom got married in 1998 we moved again into an even bigger house in Northwoods located in Normandy were I started my sixth and final grade of elementary school at Jefferson Elementary School. When I started attending Jefferson Elementary, I meet many people that were interested in the same things I was. Sixth grade was a breeze, but there was one thing that got to me, all the beautiful girls in my grade and many of them liked me because I was cute, this is when I knew I could use my good looks not to get a lot of girls, but to market myself in anything I do, like music.
After I graduated from grade school and entered into Jr. High, I got more and more in dept with the whole music culture. One night while I was at home in my room I was watching BET a movie came on called “Juice.” The movie had Omar Epps, 2 Pac, and many other actors in it and it was about Omar Epps becoming a famous DJ. After I watched that movie I told my mom, Butch I wanted some DJ equipment, and they got the DJ gear my second semester seventh grade year and that is how my DJ life started. I started djing just at home in my room practicing all day everyday until I was ready to do my first mobile gig. My first gig was at Mathew-Dickey Boys and Girls Club doing a cheerleading competition, it was much but it meant something to me.
As I got older and got more and more gigs, I got a job as the house dj at the Palace Skating rink every Friday and Saturday doing teen night from 8pm-12am. I was djing at the Palace Skating rink for about 2 years all the way, until I got to high school. My freshman year in high school I lost my stepfather Butch, but I was still djing but I was also playing football, baseball, and basketball so I was juggling both. In high school, I was djing homecomings, proms, and school dances all over St. Louis and I was in high demand. My junior in high school was the year that made me local celebrity. I meant an old friend by the name of J-Kwon who I started djing for and traveling with. While with J-Kwon, I have done BET Rap City in The Basement, Showtime at The Apollo, MTV, J-Kwon Tipsy Video, and many other things. When I got back to St. Louis from being J-Kwon, I was a totally different DJ TAB not to myself but too many others. When I got back to school people were asking me for autographs to take pictures give them hugs school was crazy. School got to be so crazy that the principal wanted me to do home schooling because the teachers said I was causing a distraction towards to the other students. My senior year of high school was no different I had a lot more fans and a lot more dj gigs but these gigs weren’t just in St. Louis, but around the U.S. I graduated from Normandy High School in 2005 and started attending Harris-Stowe State University in the fall of 2005 were I meant another rapper but this time a female by the name of Penelope Jones. Penelope Jones is a female artist who is signed to Universal Motown Music Group and is the sweetest person I know. Many people who do not know Penelope think she is a push over, but she takes care of business. Penelope and I will be traveling to Los Angeles, California to shoot her in the next two weeks and she will be the hottest female to every come out of St. Louis. I am also currently Geffen recording artist Jibbs tour DJ. In March of 2007 Jibbs and I will be opening for the Snoop Dogg and P. Diddy European tour. The tour we hit over 15 countries mainly in Europe. DJ TAB has been on a 26 city tour with pop star Bow wow and many other hip hop artist. To this day DJ TAB is still one of the youngest djs gaining national respect.
