    -----------------------------

Being an actor is a lot like DROPPING your PANTS
in front of a crowd of people …
and hoping you remembered to put underwear on.

You’re exposing yourself to possible embarrassment - forgetting your lines
and making a total fool of yourself.

In an acting text book, author John Regan suggests that people become actors
for the same reason they like extreme sports. Both have similar challenges
which produce an adrenaline rush and test one’s vulnerability.

I think he’s right. The adrenaline I’ve experienced as a skydiver is almost
the same as walking onto a stage in front of a big audience or acting in
    front of a camera.

The rush can be a good thing, I think, if it’s used to allow the character
you’re playing to jump into your body and become alive. Then there’s no
need to be nervous … the person on stage isn’t YOU any longer.

But, this works only if you intimately understand the guy you’re playing.
