About me
New York City, New York, United States
In the eighth grade, Molly-Kai auditioned for the middle school of Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. After some begging and blaming of mistakes on her non-existent strep throat, she was accepted as a vocal major.
Dedicated student she was, Molly-Kai began cutting “majors” classes by December of that year. She would sneak into the auditorium to watch the drama majors working on their production of “A Christmas Carol.” A teacher took pity on her and allowed her to participate as stage manager. Then, luckily, the lead playing Scrooge got sick (strep throat to the rescue again!)
Molly-Kai’s first acting debut was as crotchety Ebenezer Scrooge. She was hooked.
Molly-Kai auditioned for the high school for Creative and Performing Arts, CAPA, in Pittsburgh. She got in. There she participated in a rigorous training program of acting, vocal and dance classes 6 hours a day, following her honors academics.
After a lot of hard work and some seriously dedicated teachers, she was accepted into NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where her unconventional approach to being an actor was her strength. She workshopped the role of a female soldier with Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Alex Gersten. She worked with Tony Award winning composer Liz Swados as a choreographer. She also, in just three weeks, directed, choreographed and produced her own hour-long dance piece on treadmills. Unconventional is the word.
Since graduating, she has starred in her first feature-length film, Everything Fred Tells Me is True, a comedy about Jersey kids who lack ambition. She played a Sargent in Drama Desk nominated “Surrender” and was a featured dancer. Through this she learned to handle an assault rifle, clear rooms like the big boys in Iraq and belch her ABC’s. All marketable skills.
Molly-Kai is currently writing her first screenplay and hopes to shoot in the summer of 2010.
