PleaseI was born January 31, 1965 in Oceanside New York. My father was a hard working machinist and my mom was a housewife. I grew up in a fishing town of Freeport surrounded by water, hence I love the ocean. Went to school in town and graduated in 1985 ,a regular guy, playing mostly ice hockey,surfing learning the meaning the of Team. Parents divorced when I was 7, my step father was a good man. My real father taught me about morals, and my step dad taught me about living.
Growing up I would hear the fire horns and expect to hear the fire trucks soon after. After high school I found out a bunch of my friends were involved with the Volunteer Fire Dept. Had a great upbringing and was raised to have respect, and a sense of community spirit, we knew our neighbors as well as just about everyone in town.
In 1984 I joined Hose 2 in the Freeport Fire Dept, but after 6 months and a few different fire calls realized that I belonged with The Wide Awake Engine 216 and fit right in. These guys were aggressive, well trained assertive and had a real sense of working as a team and being a family. These guys played hard and fought fires harder. Many of them used the company as a stepping stone before going to the big show, NYFD.
I got into IBEW local 25 in 85 and was employed as a union electrician until moving to California in the winter of 91 to presume a job offer to work on commercial sets. Didn’t work out, got into construction and after a while worked with one of LA’s hottest designers acting as contractor, working on some of LA’s biggest hotspots.
Became a certified diver in 00 and a rescue diver in 03, always keeping my firematic ways in the water as well as on land. Car accidents etc, stopping to help where possible, sometimes getting in trouble doing so.
A leader or as I like to say a coordinator of chaos I had always been analytical and calm under pressure all because of my peace as a fireman .
