Biography
Growing up in the art world, it was natural that Jolie found a niche as a performance artist. Inspired by nationally and internationally acclaimed visual artists at a young age through her parent's involvement in the fine arts community, the young girl began formulating her own unique ways of expression when only five. Jolie Jacqueline Vanier was born on the 14th day of January 1998, in Arizona to Jerre Lynn and Jay Vanier. Jolie has one brother, Jared Wick.
Jolie would perform in her house, in the car or wherever she could find an audience. (Even if the audience only consisted of her dogs "Izzy" and "Annie" and the cat "Pinkietta"!) She would memorize the lines of movies by watching DVDs and introduced music and/or dance steps that would enhance the creative efforts. It was not long before the budding performer succeeded in convincing her parents to let her attend local acting classes. Jolie began participating in local children's theatre (including Childplay and Desert Stages), school and church productions and various instructors and coaches soon noticed that the youngster was indeed talented. She was encouraged to audition for a Los Angeles based agent and began the regime of commuting to California for auditions and additional training in acting, voice, and dance.
Jolie's big breakthrough came during the second year of pursuing her dream when writer/director Robert Rodriguez cast her as "Helvetica" in the Warner Bros. feature film "Shorts". Starring Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann and James Spader, the film will be released nationally in August 2009. The young actress has also been busy making short films; for instance, "Strange Little Girl", directed by the award-winning Turkish director Bessy Adut, was screened at the Bijou Film Festival at Cal Arts and will be shown at film festivals here and abroad. In the spring of 2009, Jolie was the recipient of a 2009 C.A.R.E. Award (Child Actor Recognition Event Award) as well as a nominee for Best Young Actress in a short film, "Juvenile Delinquence" at the Young Artists Awards.
In addition to acting, she enjoys drawing, painting, writing and designing clothes. With the help of family and friends, Jolie has created two children's books, entitled "Puwaii Adventures with Joliea & Friends" and "Puwaii Adventures with Joliea and Friends ...the Adventures Continue", based on her love of fashion design, adventure and travel.
A dedicated young community activist, the young actress generously donates her time to numerous charitable organizations; for instance, she has read and performed for ChildsRead of Arizona and Actors for Autism in Los Angeles. A great animal lover, Jolie makes regular donations from her allowance to the Arizona Humane Society and the ASPCA.
