in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Micah Rae Kelley was born on July 12, 1989 in Kansas City, MO to Llewylln and Lisa Kelley. She lived with her parents and brother, Kristopher Kelley in the suburbs until her parents separated. During this time, Micah was exploring creative ways to express herself. She wrote poetry, short stories and plays. While she was in elementary school, Micah performed in plays from childhood stories. In middle school, she began to recite her poetry at her church, Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church as... More well as many others.
Along with reciting poetry, Micah sang in the teenage choir at church. This helped Micah to rid herself of her childhood stage fright. Through the choir Micah became a leader and was well respected throughout her church. She was also able to perform in plays and skits through different ministries there.
Once Micah entered high school at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, she started writing more and got more serious about Jesus Christ. In her sophomore year of high school, Micah became a part of Teen Star, a section in the Kansas City Star newspaper written for teens by teens. This organization has helped Micah to be a better writer and have great connections with people. Also, Micah began her second year of high school on the Lincoln Tiger Debate and Forensics Team. The team helped in Micah's development as a person and as a speaker.
At the end of Micah's sophomore year, she attended the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists Summer Academy. This program pushed Micah and all who attended to the limit as writers, letting them know what their capabilities were. Because of Micah's connections with the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists, she participated in Generation Rap, the Carter Broadcast Group's number one teen talk show in the nation.
During Micah's junior year of high school, she continued to participate on the Debate and Forensics Team at school, Generation Rap, and Teen Star. At that point, Teen Star began their Television show, My Teen Star TV. Because of Micah's hard work, she got to be on TV to talk about teen issues from Teen Star. Less
