Summary

Amy is sitting in a cafe reading a book. Michael has his tray with coffee and food and is looking for a place to sit, as the cafe is crowded. He asks to sit at her table and she agrees. Soon they are talking politely to one another; but as soon as they begin, their ids show up and sit beside and slightly behind them. While Michael and Amy respond politely to one another, their ids (interiors) are saying outrageous things, especially about sexual suggestions as to what they might do. Their ids’ passion and lust are juxtaposed with Amy and Michael’s bland, polite conversation. Finally, against all the rules of not knowing each other, the ids begin to argue with each other, then fight, then desire each other, then begin to undress to make love but Amy gets up to leave and all four people are unfulfilled. Despite the fact that Amy and Michael very much wanted each other, neither had the courage to say what was on the (id’s) mind.”
