Laura Shanrico Cornelius; writer, director, choreographer, and actress was born on June 29th; the oldest of three. As a native Floridian, Laura grew up in a rather challenging environment which forced her to mask both her pains and fears by entertaining. At age six Laura began composing and writing music, which later turned into full theatrical performances. Entertaining family and friends sparked a passion in her which inspired her to... More become a star.
Laura got her first start on stage as an oratorical speaker. Winning several awards earned her the title of a National Forensic Speaker. Captivated by the arts, Laura performed her first stage play,
âFor Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,â which gained her great respect in her community. Inspired to write about her life struggles, Laura soon begin writing plays and putting on productions at her local church.
Lauraâs first submitted play, âThe Silent Cries of a Child,â an autobiography; was rejected due to its overwhelming descriptive text. Encouraged to take a lighter approach in her writing style she decided to write an inspirational stage play. Forced within strict guidelines, Lauraâs first production, âThe Passion;â a depiction of the crucifixion, was accepted and loved by massive followers. She was encouraged to continue writing for both Christmas and Easter productions. A series of Productions followed, one being âThe Greatest Gift,â a Christmas production that explored the birth of Jesus through the inquisitive eyes of children.
Lauraâs third major production âThis Far by Faith,â was the first ticketed event. Unsure of how well her third production would go considering it was the first charged event; shockingly a second day was added and both nights were sold out.
Lauraâs creativity was again challenged when she began writing the churchâs announcement as her off the wall, free speaking alter egos; Ms. Sarah and Mr. Willie, who often stepped on a few toes as they would say stuff about the church that would normally go unsaid or pushed under the carpet. In search for up and coming performers, a local television channel asked Laura to write a skit on her characters Ms. Sarah and Mr. Willie. The T.V. show, âPraise Time Television,â offered Laura a slot for a skit to depict the changes within the community, home and church. Lauraâs last Production, âWhat Ifâ¦,â a Christmas comedy, telling the story of Mary, Joseph, and the birth of Jesus with a twenty first century twist; still gets raving reviews.
After working for ten years as an acting coach, writer, director, choreographer, artist director, and production coordinator Laura has decided to pursue her true passion, acting.
