In a character study blog page on my web-site. I like to write down a 'report' on myself when I am close to First night, anyway. It's kind of a memory exercise on how I have built up the character, and what I am doing to retain it during the run of the production. I am hoping that, by writing this down and sharing it with readers, I am showing a professional approach to characterisation that shows people how I adapt my training to the production itself.

Of course, it also allows me to add new content to the website itself, which is a key to better rankings. Let me know what you think:

Vancouver Middle-Aged Character Actor

One of the things that I have experienced as an actor, an unrepresented actor, especially, is the power of networking. Not going out there with the intention of meeting the right person with the right connection who will 'discover' you or 'commission' you but with the attitude of making allies!

Read an interview with one of my most recent allies HERE!

Having allies in this business is vitally important. They like your FB page, view your show-reel, support you on YouTube, write your endorsements and reviews, share your projects, donate on Pozible, attend your events and you, my friend, do the same!

This is all just my experiential perspective. Not necessarily the god's truth (I'm an atheist, incidentally) but some ideas that you might enjoy laughing at or benefit from! Who knows, certainly not me!

As I was saying, make allies! It's not hard. Just be open to new opportunities and new people. Everyone is just as friendly and insecure as you are. It's not really a risk putting yourself out there on forums and saying, "People, I exist and I would like some company on this scary ride called 'show business.' The worst that can happen is that no one bites that time. Keep trying. If you don't try you have a 100% failure rate. Keep trying!

I send out cold introductions with my showreel and head shot to agents, directors, casting directors, writers and filmmakers. Most of them probably never get read. Most of the read emails never receive a response. Most of the responses are rejections. But every now and again, months after I've sent the email, I get a surprise in my inbox from some obscure filmmaker saying, "I got your email, yes, please, I need you!"

Is there a better feeling in the world?

Now imagine if you could do this without getting your IP address and mail servor put on spam lists, unfairly or not! Well, you can! Make friends here! And then go over to Stage32, register and post an introduction this weekend! You'll make friends and connections wth like-minded professionals and enthusiasts from all over the world. Who knows what opportunities these connections could present.

Rather than being competitive, let's be cooperative! As actors and artists we can only do so much and the chance of being successful has very little to do with our talent and suitability as it does with our persistence and exposure. The more people that know you, the more opportunities that will present themselves. Don't hold out for THE oppportunity, or THE connection! We're all in this together, and every opportunity is worthwhile!

Peace,

Molly

Over the years I've done quite alot of things, pushing myself to do things that I don't normally do.

During the 1980's I got onto some TV shows and I loved being on them, until that one day. The day when a director yelled at me for nothing, one of the fellow actors turned to him and stood up for me. To this day I was proud that he did that but for many years it affected me in many ways. I left acting to pursue other jobs, during the 90's I built stage sets and have worked for Famous People Players.

I don't want to be famous my goal is to do what I love to do.

A few years ago I was called into Toronto, I wasn't sure what was going on. It turned out that the director that yelled at me several years ago wanted to applogize.

Since then I've gotten some jobs in the field but I don't seek fame or money, I do it because of one thing. I love what I can do.
