Sol Marina Crespo, originally from Caimito Alto, Puerto Rico, arrived in New York in 1998. A graduate from New York University, she earned bachelorâs degrees in Drama and Latin American Studies. At NYU, she co-created âCamilleâ, an experimental play based on the famed French sculptor Camille Claudel. She continues to perform her one-woman show based on the legendary Dominican poet, Salomé Ureña. She also performed in âLas Hermanas Mirabalâ as Patria Mirabal, an... Moreother prominent historical figure of the Dominican Republic. Her performance of Griseldi in âThe Missteps of a Salsa Dancerâ won her the 2005 HOLA award for Outstanding Performance of a Featured Female Actor. Other acting credits include: âRoses Are Played Outâ, âFrom Auction Block to Hip Hopâ, âPlátanos and Collared Greensâ, âThe Mouse that Roaredâ, âIs this Desire?,â âCamino Realâ and âAlley Ratsâ. For Film and Television, Sol created the role of Trina for the independent feature âMaking Changeâ and the role of Paloma for the telenovela âLos estudiantes apasionadosâ, as well as various short films, among them, âShiney Shoesâ and âBig Smileâ. Her voice-over work includes Calvin Kleinâs ckOne, Eternity and Euphoria campaigns, Payless Shoe Source and a variety of Spanish AudioBooks. In 2002, she co-founded Ontheinside Productions. As part of this company, she directed a female version of Miguel Piñero's "Short Eyes", which was called by Master Teacher Steve Wangh âthe best directed independent project at the Experimental Theatre Wingâ and John Patrick Shanleyâs "Danny & the Deep Blue Sea". She is also an Assistant Director for various PSAâs for the state of NJ. As a company member of Pregones Theatre, she recently performed in âRed Roseâ and âSissyâ. She will be performing in the summer tour âLeave a Message After the Beepâ and future projects at Pregones. You can see Sol in the upcoming feature films: âSurrenderâ, âLate Autumnâ, and âBronx 3Mâ.
